Digital file- AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy (8464) Flashcards Mitosis & the Cell cycle
These flashcards cover AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy 8464 – 4.1.2.2 Mitosis and the Cell Cycle:
-
Cells divide in a series of stages called the cell cycle.
-
During the cell cycle, genetic material is doubled and then divided into two identical cells.
-
Before a cell divides, it grows and increases the number of sub-cellular structures such as ribosomes and mitochondria.
-
The DNA replicates, forming two copies of each chromosome.
-
During mitosis, one set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell and the nucleus divides.
-
Finally, the cytoplasm and cell membranes divide to form two identical cells.
-
Students should understand the three overall stages of the cell cycle but do not need to know the phases within mitosis.
-
Mitosis is important for the growth and development of multicellular organisms.
-
Be able to recognise and describe situations where mitosis is occurring in context.
Even if you’re studying a different exam board, these cards are a useful way to review core biology concepts such as cell division and growth. Check your own syllabus to focus on exactly what you need.
🔑 Tip: Don’t just read these flashcards—test yourself repeatedly for the best results. Pair them with my guide on “How to Use Flashcards” for an effective study method.
